Clean Energy Improvement Program — CEIP (Alberta)

Alberta's main home-energy instrument is financing, not rebates: CEIP lends up to $50,000 (100% of project costs) for solar, heat pumps, insulation and windows, repaid over up to 20 years through your property tax bill — and the balance transfers to the next owner if you sell. Available in 26+ municipalities; status varies (Edmonton is waitlisted; Calgary reopens September 22, 2026).

Amounts

FinancingUp to $50,000 · up to 100% of costs
TermUp to 20 years, via property tax bill
Edmonton (current tranche)6.00% fixed — waitlisted
Calgary (reopens Sept 22, 2026)~5.66–5.75% estimated

Who qualifies

  • Your municipality must run a residential CEIP (26+ do, including Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, St. Albert, Airdrie)
  • On the property title, no tax arrears, current on property-secured debt
  • Work started before approval is ineligible; Edmonton requires a minimum of 3 upgrades and pre/post EnerGuide evaluations

How to apply

  1. 1Check your municipality’s CEIP page and pre-qualify
  2. 2Get an EnerGuide evaluation, submit a project application with a qualified contractor, sign agreements
  3. 3Install, submit completion documents, then repay through your property taxes

Stacking with other programs

CEIP is financing only — Edmonton explicitly permits pursuing external rebates alongside it. Alberta has no province-wide retrofit rebate; the $100 "Alberta Energy Rebate" (apply July 1 – Sept 30, 2026) is a cost-of-living payment, not an efficiency program.
